When it comes to making your home look its best, little details can make a big difference. One easy way to update your windows is to shorten your curtains. You don’t need to sew or cut to do this – all you need is a simple hemming trick.
If your curtains are too long and you don’t want to cut or sew them, there are a few things you can do to shorten them. One way is to fold or pleat the fabric at the top of the curtain so that it takes up less space. You can also tie the curtains back with a ribbon or rope to make them shorter. Another option is to take the curtains down and rehang them so that the fabric sits higher on the rod.

If you’re not sure what temperature to use on your iron, err on the side of a lower heat. You can always increase the heat if needed, but if you start too high you could damage your drapes.
If you want to shorten your drapes without spending a lot of money, you can use iron-on fusible tape or fabric glue. These are both inexpensive and easy to use, and they will give you a professional-looking finish.
How do you fix curtains that are too long
There are a few different ways that you can hang your curtains in order to achieve the desired look. The easiest way is to simply hang the curtains and then fold the bottoms under so that they just graze the floor. However, another option is to measure the length from the top of the curtain rod to the floor and then measure down from the top of the curtains. Just be sure to fold the fabric under or toward the back of the curtains so that it is not visible.
To hem a store-bought curtain, determine the new length for your drapes and mark it with a pin. Un-hem the panels and partially open the bottom of each side hem to release the lining. Using an iron, press the panel to remove the fold lines from the original hem.
How do you shorten curtains with glue?
Once you’re done ironing we’re going to take the fabric Blue you’re going to start gluing towards the top of the shirt. You’re going to be making a pocket. So, you want to make sure that the pocket is big enough to put your hand in. After you’re done gluing, you’re going to want to put a piece of tape over it so that it will stay in place.

When folding over to create a cuff, be sure to place your hand tape down first. This will help to keep the cuff in place and prevent it from slipping. You can also place the right inside the cuff before folding over. This will help to keep the cuff from creasing.
Hem tape is an adhesive tape that is used to hem fabric. It is available in different weights and widths to work with different types of fabrics and different size hems. To use it, you simply heat the tape with an iron to make it melt. This causes the adhesive to fuse together two pieces of fabric.
How many inches off the floor should curtains be
Curtains that drag on the floor can be a tripping hazard and collect dust more easily. For the ideal middle ground, curtains should hover just above the floor. To find the right curtain length, measure from the floor to where you’ll hang the rod (usually 4 to 6 inches above the window frame).
There are a few things to keep in mind when deciding if your curtains should touch the floor. First, think about the overall style you want to create in your space. If you’re going for a more formal look, longer curtains that pool on the floor can create a elegantly draped effect. For a more casual look, shorter curtains that just graze the floor can be a good option.
Next, consider the function of your curtains. If you’re looking for curtains that will provide privacy and block out light, you’ll want to make sure they’re long enough to cover the entire window. On the other hand, if you’re just looking for something to add a decorative touch, shorter curtains may be all you need.
Finally, keep in mind the amount of upkeep you’re willing to do. Curtains that touch the floor can be more susceptible to dirt and dust, so you’ll need to be prepared to do a little extra cleaning. If you’re not up for that, shorter curtains may be a better option for you.
So, should curtains touch the floor? It really depends on your personal style and the function you need them to serve. But no matter what, make sure to choose the length that’s right for your space
What not to do when hanging curtains?
One of the most common mistakes people make when hanging curtains is to hang them too low. This makes the window look smaller and the room seem less inviting. Instead, hang your curtains about a foot above the window frame to make the room look bigger and more open.
Another mistake is to hang curtains that are too short. This makes the room look unfinished and can be really distracting. Curtains should ideally be about a foot longer than the window, so that they puddle on the floor slightly. This gives a much more luxurious look.
Another common mistake is to choose curtains that are too thin. This can make the room look harsh and unpleasant. Thick, heavy curtains are much more inviting and add a sense of luxury to the room.
Finally, be careful of the style or type of pleats in your curtains. Some styles can look dated or overly fussy. Stick to simple, clean lines for a timeless look.
Hanging your curtains from rings is an easy way to add length to them. This will drop the curtains down a few inches, which is perfect if they are just a bit too short.
Can you use two sided tape to hem curtains
Overall, I thought the double sided adhesive tape worked well and I would definitely use it again if I were to do this project. I liked that it didn’t slip around while I worked, unlike the iron on tape. The peel & stick fabric tape was also easy to use – you just press it into place and you’re done!
Carolyn,
Thank you for your question! Most curtains will require 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 times fullness, depending on the heading/gathering and look you want to achieve. I always prefer to be generous and use 2 1/2 times the width, as skimpier curtains don’t usually look as good. Any extra fabric can always be used for cushions or tiebacks.
Best,

Can you cut curtains with scissors?
There are a few things to keep in mind when cutting your curtains. First, make sure to use high quality fabric scissors. This will make the job much easier and will prevent any ripping or tearing of the fabric. Second, take your time when cutting. This will ensure a clean, straight line. Finally, once you have cut the excess material off, open the curtains back up and enjoy your handiwork!
If you’re looking for a quick alternative to sewing a hem in place, fusible hem tape is a great option. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the adhesive is permanent and once it’s fused, there’s no way to remove it. This can be an issue if you need to adjust the hem at some point down the road – for example, if you’re hemming pants and you need to let them out later on. In this case, it’s probably best to stick with a traditional sew-in hem.
